ICAR-CMFRI Organises Awareness-cum-Stakeholders Meeting at Karaikkalmedu, Karaikal

The Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI organised an awareness-cum-stakeholders meeting at Karaikkalmedu in the Karaikal district of the Union Territory of Puducherry on 18 June 2026 under the project SFD/IAF/13.

The programme featured technical sessions on sustainable and responsible fisheries management, conservation of fishery resources, and the impacts of ghost fishing. Around 27 fishermen participated in the interactive programme and shared their fishing experiences. Various issues and challenges faced by the fishers of Karaikal were discussed among the stakeholders, with emphasis on possible measures for sustainable fisheries development and resource conservation.
