Union Ministers Visit ICAR-CMFRI Regional Centre in Visakhapatnam

Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal and Hon’ble Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Shri Chirag Paswan visited the Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 and reviewed the institute's research and aquaculture facilities aimed at promoting sustainable marine fisheries and India's Blue Economy.

During the visit, the Ministers planted saplings under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, reaffirming the commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The Ministers visited the Centre's advanced aquaculture and research infrastructure, including the marine finfish hatchery, broodstock and nursery rearing facilities, and the Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS). Scientists briefed them on the ongoing research programmes, technological innovations and capacity-building initiatives being undertaken by ICAR-CMFRI to support sustainable marine fisheries, mariculture development and coastal livelihoods.

The visit was attended by Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries), ICAR; Dr. Grinson George, Director, ICAR-CMFRI; Dr. Joe K. Kizhakudan, Head of the Visakhapatnam Regional Centre; Ms. Priya P. Nair, Economic Adviser, Ministry of Commerce and Industry; along with scientists, researchers and staff members of the institute.

The Ministers appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CMFRI in developing innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for the fisheries sector and emphasized the importance of research-driven interventions in strengthening India's Blue Economy and ensuring environmental sustainability.
