Focus of Research :

  • shrimp fisheries biology &  management
  • Crustacean taxonomy
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) based fisheries management

Background :

Since joining the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in June 1996, I have contributed to research at its facilities - Tuticorin Research Station, Calicut Research Station, Madras Research Station and the headquarters in Kochi, Kerala. My work primarily focuses on research projects related to crustacean fisheries and their management. My current research projects are

  • Science for Sustainability: Developing an Integrated Assessment Framework (IAF) to inform management decisions for marine fisheries of Kerala (ICAR-CMFRI -DFD/IAF/09)
  • Investigations on the recruitment of juvenile/sub-adult penaeid shrimps from nursery habitats to derive management insights for the coastal penaeid shrimp fishery (ICAR-CMFRI - SFD/PSF/16).

  •

Exploring Non-Conventional Fisheries Resources: Assessing their fishery, stock status and potential for commercial exploitation (ICAR-CMFRI - FFD/ENCFR/33)
  • Technical backstopping for strengthening sustainable harvest of shrimp and cephalopod trawl fishery of Kerala. (Consultancy Project)

Education :

  • PhD  2008  Calicut University
  • MSc  1994  Marine Biology, Cochin University of Science and Technology
  • BSc   1991  Zoology, University of Kerala

Current Research Projects :

NoTitleFunded By
1GIS based resource mapping of distribution and abundance of finfishes and shellfishes off Indian coast for suggesting operational based strategies for fisheries management.CMFRI
2Development of Fishery Management Plans (FMPs) for sustaining the marine fisheries of Kerala and LakshadweepCMFRI
