Awareness Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Soil Health Management Conducted at Gotegali Village, Karwar
Under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG), Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Karwar in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Sirsi, jointly organized an “Awareness Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Soil Health Management” on 20 May 2026 at Gotegali gram panchayat, Gotegali village, Karwar.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Shri Manjunath Talekar, Assistant Technical Manager, Department of Agriculture. During the awareness programme , Dr. Shweta Kumari, Soil Scientist, KVK Sirsi, explained about the objectives of the awareness programme, highlighting the importance of balanced fertilizer application, the harmful effects of excessive chemical fertilizer usage on soil health, the role of soil health cards in sustainable agriculture, and the benefits of using organic fertilizers for improving soil fertility and long-term sustainability.
Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Scientist, Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI, explained about the importance of organic fertilizers, particularly seaweed liquid fertilizer and fish silage. He elaborated on their advantages, preparation methods, and application techniques for improving soil fertility and crop productivity.
Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu, Scientist, Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI, spoke about sustainable and integrated agricultural practices for enhancing farmers’ income through eco-friendly farming approaches.
Pamphlets on balanced fertilizer use and soil health management were distributed to the participants. Following the awareness programme, the team visited nearby arecanut and coconut plantations along with the KVK Sirsi team, where field-level observations and farmer interactions were conducted.
During the field visit, prevalence of Red Palm Weevil infestation in coconut palms and symptoms of zinc and boron deficiency in the plantation were observed and discussed with the farmers.
A total of 18 farmers from eight nearby villages participated in the programme, including 14 women and 4 men.The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Praveen Dubey. The event was coordinated by Dr. Tanveer Hussain and Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu of the Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI.
