Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 Campaign - 14 Sep to 02 Oct, 2024

Swachhta Hi Seva 2024 campaign was organised at ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi from 17th September to 2nd October, 2024. The campaign commenced with the online Swachhta Pledge organised by the Honourable DG, ICAR on 17.09.2024. Director and staff at CMFRI HQ, Kochi and staff at all regional centres of CMFRI took the  Swachhta Pledge.

Honourable Minister of state of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri.George Kurian visited ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi on 26.09.2024 and felicitated the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign. The minister released the publications One Decade of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at ICAR-CMFRI and brochure on CADALMINTM BSF ZW -A Zero waste bio-conversion system in the presence of CMFRI Director, Dr.Grinson George, Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA and Dr.A.P Dinesh Babu, Head, SFD, CMFRI, Kochi. The Honourable Minister also inaugurated   the CADALMINTM BSF ZW -A Zero waste bio-conversion system for bio-waste processing in the campus. This is an effective and eco-friendly organic bio-conversion model using Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL).

The book One Decade of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at ICAR-CMFRI portrays the significant initiatives taken up ICAR-CMFRI for the Clean India Movement of the country in the past decade. The book narrates the prominent Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities of the institute during 2014 to 2024 including the technologies developed for promoting swachhta, waste to wealth initiatives, public awareness programmes, coastal clean-up drives involving coastal communities, awareness programmes through cleanliness drives, competitions, awareness talks, webinars, rallies, workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, art installations and publications.

To propagate the Swachhta message to society, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan committee of ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi organised a painting competition for the students of The Fr.Agostino Vicini's Special School, Mundamveli, Kochi. It is a special school for hearing impaired students in Mundaveli, Kerala, India. The winners were distributed prizes by the Swachh Bharath committee members of CMFRI, Kochi.  Swachh Bharat committee members along with the staff and students also undertook cleaning activities in the premises of the school. Cultural performance of the students was also done during the occasion.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan committee of CMFRI, Kochi in association with the Women cell, CMFRI organised Safaimitra programme at CMFRI, Kochi on 1.10.2024 by giving an awareness programme on menstrual cups and distribution of menstrual cups to the house keeping staff of the institute.

ICAR-CMFRI Kochi celebrated the Swachhta Diwas by conducting a Cleanliness drive at Abraham Madamakkal Road  and honouring the cleaning staff of the institute. CMFRI Director Dr.Grinson George addressed the staff  during the occasion and inaugurated the Sawchhta Diwas celebrations. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan committee of CMFRI coordinated the Swachhta Diwas programmes.

As part of the Swachh Bharat Campaign 2024, ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) organized a walkathon in collaboration with the NSS unit of the College of Fisheries, Yekkur, and Yashwasini Fish Meal and Oil Company. Held on 24th September 2024, the event aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of a clean and green India. A total of 125 participants, including staff, students, and members of the public, actively took part in the walkathon, demonstrating a strong community spirit. The walkathon began at 7:30 AM from Yemmekare Ground, and the participants followed a route that took themfrom Yemmekare to Pandeshwara, continued through Hoige Bazaar, and concluded at the CMFRI Mangalore Regional Office by 8:40 AM. The participants carried placards and banners promoting environmental cleanliness and sustainability, encouraging onlookers to join the movement toward a cleaner India. The event not only highlighted the importance of public involvement in maintaining clean surroundings but also fostered a sense of responsibility among the younger generation. The walkathon was a testament to the collaborative efforts of CMFRI, the College of Fisheries, and local industry in promoting the Swachh Bharat mission. Overall, the initiative successfully engaged the community, creating awareness and inspiring action toward a cleaner environment.

As a part of Swachhata Hi Seva Awareness programme, organized Swachhata campaigns and awareness programmes and also organized completions such as, Extempore speeches, Slogan Writing, and Quiz competitions for the staff of ICAR-CMFRI, Visakhapatnam and the winners were appreciated. These activities were aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of cleanliness and environmental stewardship among staff members.
