Core Technologies Transferred
The following advanced mariculture technologies have been identified, adapted, and transferred to the Siddi tribal community to enable sustainable mariculture entrepreneurship:
- Open Sea Cage Farming - Design, construction, and operations using GI-pipe frameworks, buoyancy systems, and multi-layered net system. Also Lobster and Crab Fattening was conducted within open sea cage setups to maximise space utilization and enhance household income.
- Commercial Seaweed Cultivation - HDPE Raft-based Seaweed Farming, scalable seaweed production integrated within the commercial cultivation framework using HDPE raft infrastructure.
- Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) - A systems-based approach where multiple species at different trophic levels are cultivated together, enabling nutrient recycling and optimized marine resource utilization.
- Intercropping Systems - Simultaneous cultivation of two or more aquatic species within the same farming space to maximize yield, reduce risk, and improve resource efficiency.
- Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) - Controlled-environment farming for consistent and reliable aquaculture output, independent of seasonal or coastal conditions.
- Ornamental fish Rearing - A structured livelihood approach encompassing tank fabrication and setup, aquascaping, water quality management, and feeding practices, enabling sustainable rearing and marketing of economically important ornamental fish species.
Advanced Incubation Infrastructure & Ecosystem
A state-of-the-art STI Hub established at the ICAR-CMFRI Veraval Regional Station, is equipped with an array of specialized operational wings, including the First Spark Reception, Industry Connect Cell, Invest Nest, Digital Classroom, Technology Advisory Cell, and Marine Lab Annex. Specialized laboratories including the Marine Wet-Lab, Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), Seaweed Laboratory, and Mariculture/Seaweed Nursery Modules have been developed, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for training, innovation, and enterprise development.
